A severe thunderstorm, packed with ping-pong-sized hail and violent wind gusts, blasted through the South and South East Twin Cities Metro area on Monday evening delivering straight-line wind damage and forceful squalls capable of producing tornadoes.
What: Hail
When: Tuesday, July 3, 2023
Where: South and South East Twin Cities Metro area, including towns of Apple Valley, Lakeville, Farmington, Rosemount, and Hastings.
What It Means For Your Home
A storm of this mighty magnitude caused great damage to homes and businesses as it slowly moved its way across the local area. Hazards in this storm included 60 mph wind gusts and hail the size of quarters up to ping-pong size. People and animals outdoors can become injured when nature screams in this fashion, as well as roofs, siding, and windows in homes.
Hail Concerns
Generally, hail that is greater than 1” in diameter will cause damage to homes and requires a professional inspection. The following can occur with a storm producing hail of this size:
- Dents in shingles
- Bruising to underlayment
- Dents in gutters and fascia
- Dented and cracked siding
If hail enlarges and becomes more aggressive, then the damages follow suit. In addition to the above issues, homeowners could also have to deal with busted ridge caps, broken siding, broken windows, and dented metal fixtures.
